Transport for Greater Manchester (TfGM) has launched guidance to assist key workers with getting to work by bicycle.
The advice covers:
- route planning
- bicycle maintenance
- road cycling tips
- recommendations for secure parking
- other problem-solving advice for while you’re out and about on your bicycle.
Sustrans has also provided advice for those who are new to cycling to work. Their Cycles For Key Workers Map helps to locate your nearest bicycle shop, together with sharing details on offers introduced during the lockdown, including the free use of bicycles.
This follows the government’s announcement on Sunday that those returning to their workplaces this week should commute by walking and cycling where possible, so that distancing measures can be observed on public transport.
Even before the announcement, Greater Manchester was seeing clear increases in the modal share of cycling, by 42%:
Journeys being made by bike has now increased by 42% in GM.
If you’re #cycling or walking for your journeys, keep going 👍
