GM Walking Seeks Partner for Chadderton Schools’ Sustainable Commute Plan

Active travel group GM Walking is working with local partners in Chadderton, Oldham to explore issues of congestion at school drop off-pick up time.

The project has emerged through a unique partnership between ward councillors, schools, TfGM, Oldham Council and GM Walking, which has developed a brief for some community engagement work around congestion at school drop off and pick up times. They have an opportunity for agencies that could provide support to understand issues and attitudes and explore approaches to encourage more walking (and cycling/scooting journeys) to school.

They are seeking a partner to provide some capacity to work with four schools in Chadderton (two primary and two secondary schools) and the community surrounding those schools on the issue of congestion in the area and attitudes to walking and cycling. All of the schools have given their support for the project and commitment to work with the appointed partner.

GM Walking is a group that aims to support people across the region to be able to walk. Its steering group, GM Walking Voice, meets bi-monthly and unites members of Living Streets, The Ramblers, Sustrans, City of Trees, GM Moving [Walking Ambition], Transport for Greater Manchester and The Christie NHS Foundation Trust.

Interested groups should return an outline approach to louise@gmmoving.co.uk by Monday 18th November.
