Walk Ride GM accepted an invitation to share our experiences as part of the featured panel of Merseyside Cycling Campaign’s Summit and AGM on 17 May 2025.
Following on from a few words by fellow panellists Dr Kay Inckle (Wheels for Wellbeing), Ed Gommon (Zero Carbon Liverpool), and Simon O’Brien (Liverpool City Region’s Cycling Commissioner), our representative, Ian, delivered a short presentation on how Walk Ride GM formed, how it has evolved and how we continue to achieve so many successes today as a volunteer-run group.
We were asked to contribute to the topic “Making Liverpool City Region a brilliant place to cycle” – from our perspective further east along the River Mersey. The audience Q&A raised queries, such as how to prevent parking in cycle lanes and how to show support for schemes when council decision-makers are often pressured by passionately negative people obstructing change. We also about some specific schemes and ambitions for the area.
It’s always great to meet and build connections with people advocating for better places to live and move around other city-regions, sharing our lesson-learned while also picking up tips from the attendees.
