We want to see our town and city centres as places where people are prioritised, not vehicles.
So we want our urban centres to symbolise exactly what kind of place Greater Manchester aspires to be: aplace that puts people first.
We have already taken small, incremental steps, but we’d like to see for instance Deansgate closed to traffic, and prioritised for people instead.
To create something that really starts to look like a people-first city centre.
Other places are already ahead of the game. Madrid recently introduced a new emissions zone, covering an area bigger than the whole of Manchester city centre. Other cities are also following suit – Paris want to do it, as do Oslo.
