The schemes include victories for WalkRide subgroups in Romiley and The Heatons, where active neighbourhood proposals were granted £3.9m and £3.2m, respectively. Also approved was £5.7m in funding for the Fallowfield Loop, including improved lighting to enhance safety. This follows the pressure applied by a well-attended protest ride arranged by WalkRide GM founders in response to the spate of muggings in October 2018.
The committee, which met on Friday 29 November to discuss a range of issues, also noted “that a pipeline of schemes was being develop [sic], to strengthen further funding requests of Government”.
